Huawei presses ahead with 5G Innovation and Experience Centre, despite UK Government’s decision delay

Despite the Government failing to make a decision on whether to ban Huawei’s 5G technology from UK networks, the Chinese firm is still continuing to commit to the market. In fact, the company has just gone and opened a new 5G Innovation and Experience Centre in London, which it hopes will promote greater collaboration between businesses and innovators in the development of 5G ecosystems.

The Huawei 5G decision is expected to take place in the new year, as Boris Johnson’s government has given priority to getting Brexit done first, and MPs are expected to go on their Christmas recess at the end of this week. Despite this continued uncertainty for Huawei, the company is clearly confident that the verdict will go its way, so it’s continuing business as usual.

Huawei’s 5G technology is already set to be used by all the major operators in the UK, and with the opening of the new 5G Innovation and Experience Centre, businesses across the country will be able to experience the power of the technology for themselves. This includes real-time and interactive gaming, performing with their favourite bands with the help of virtual and augmented reality, and how 5G technology can make smart manufacturing a reality and advance healthcare.

Jerry Wang, CEO of Huawei UK, said: “With the opening of our 5G Innovation and Experience Centre in London we, as a leader of 5G, are taking another important step. What we have opened today will enable true collaboration amongst UK businesses and technologists and showcase the huge potential of 5G applications for both the private and business sectors.”

The 5G Innovation and Experience Centre is located in the Chinese-funded co-working space Cocoon Global. Alongside the demonstrations it offers visitors, it will also offer educational programmes to help customers get to grips with 5G technology.
