Daimler selects maincubes as new colo partner

For its planned data centre relocation, Daimler has chosen maincubes as its new colocation partner.

The German automobile manufacturer and mobility service provider wants to further advance the main fields of the mobile future, i.e. networking, autonomous driving, flexible use and electric drives.

In maincubes’ colocation data centre in Frankfurt, Daimler can flexibly operate its IT services and react to future requirements for hybrid cloud solutions.

In order to meet all requirements, Daimler needs an IT landscape that is scalable, secure and reliable. At the same time, cloud platforms are increasingly important to create a digital future.

Among other reasons, this is why Daimler is now relocating its central data centre from Stuttgart to Frankfurt – a location for Internet and cloud with high bandwidths and low latency on various services.

maincubes will be one of Daimler’s two new colocation partners. The automobile manufacturer plans to continue storing business-critical data within its own infrastructure.

For innovative mobility services such as analytics solutions, however, the company wants to build on the dynamics and performance of the cloud.

Optimum networking and security

With its proximity to the largest German Internet Exchange point, maincubes (since Q2-2019 as ‘DE-CIX-enabled site’) is able to offer a powerful Internet connection, which forms the basis for the successful networking of vehicles and further innovative mobility services.

An optimal supply of optical fibre guarantees direct access to many central telecommunications routes both nationally and internationally.

In addition to wide-ranging connectivity, maincubes stands for high-level security – thanks to its highly available technologies and processes, which conform with the best practices of the new industry standard Zero Outage, Daimler’s security concept provides the necessary basis for secure IT services.

Basis for strategic partnerships

maincubes is building its ‘secureexchange’ platform to enable secure marketplaces in the mobility sector and other markets of the digital future.

This platform enables Daimler to create valuable partnerships with its suppliers, service providers and customers for the secure exchange of data in connection with IoT and cloud services.

In addition, the resulting horizontal networking in eco-systems will create new business models for implementing Daimler’s digital strategy – especially with regard to the monetarisation of data and services for the mobility of the digital future.

Sustainability

For Daimler, moving its IT infrastructure to maincubes in Frankfurt not only means an increased degree of flexibility, but also a necessary and sustainable transformation on the way to the company’s digital future.

In selecting the partners, the most important criteria were sustainable technology, transparency and reliability of the operating processes as well as sustainability with regard to energy efficiency and electricity consumption.

Daimler decided, among others, in favour of the data centre operator maincubes, which was awarded the German Data Centre Prize and whose data centre in Offenbach, newly opened in October 2017, is a flagship among the data centres in the Rhine-Main region.

The colour green not only dominates the façade of the building, but also reflects the inner values: high energy efficiency with an excellent PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) value of less than 1.3, environmentally friendly and CO2-neutral operation and the use of green electricity speak for themselves.
