Civo has launched its Sovereign UK Cloud service, designed to ensure UK customer data remains within the country and in accordance with UK data laws.
While many US-based cloud providers offer data location solutions, their status as US companies means they cannot ensure data sovereignty, only data residency. Civo’s new service will guarantee that UK customer data is stored and managed solely within UK borders, under the jurisdiction of UK law.
The service is designed to help users comply with UK data regulations. By being subject only to UK laws, the new cloud service aims to eliminate the uncertainties associated with cross-border data jurisdiction.
The 2018 US Cloud Act allows US authorities to demand data from US-based tech companies, regardless of where it is stored globally. This poses challenges for regulatory compliance.
In addition to compliance, Civo’s UK cloud service provides resilience against geopolitical risks. With infrastructure based entirely in the UK, customer data is shielded from geopolitical disruptions such as regional service bans, enhancing security and customer confidence.
Mark Boost, CEO of Civo, emphasised, “Civo is dedicated to offering a secure and compliant cloud environment that upholds the highest standards of data sovereignty. Our Sovereign UK Cloud meets the rigorous demands of regulated industries and supports the UK’s digital economy. Unlike Silicon Valley solutions, we ensure that our customers’ data is securely stored and managed within the UK, providing them with complete control and peace of mind.”
