CyrusOne unveils plans for Frankfurt data centre

CyrusOne has announced plans for its seventh data centre campus in Frankfurt: FRA7.

The campus will be located on a plot at Frankfurt Westside, a mixed-use regeneration project managed by BEOS AG and Swiss Life Asset Managers since 2020.

The facility will initially offer a capacity of 81 MW across nine data halls, and will utilise waste heat re-use methods, with a potential 40 MW of waste heat delivered to the campus heating network when at full capacity.

CyrusOne has said that the campus will be powered by renewable energy, in line with the rest of the company’s operational portfolio across Europe since June 2021.

The construction of the site will also use ecological landscaping techniques, with over 1,800 sqm of the facility walls and roofs planned to be ‘green’.

“Frankfurt is an incredibly important location for CyrusOne in Europe, with 60 MW IT capacity across four operational data centres and another 126 MW under development. It is a real milestone to be planning our seventh facility in the city, and our biggest development to date in Frankfurt,” said Andreas Paduch, Area Vice President, European Sales at CyrusOne.

“We are thrilled to have BEOS, an experienced and innovative local organisation, as a key partner for this build at Frankfurt Westside and this is the start of a longstanding partnership with this team. It’s fantastic to work with a company so aligned with us on sustainability and biodiversity goals as we move forward on the project together.”

CyrusOne has said it will work closely with BEOS AG and Swiss Life Asset Managers to enhance the Frankfurt Westside campus and benefit the wider local community.

Demolition and site clearance has begun and is scheduled to be complete by the first quarter of 2024. Construction will commence in quarter three of 2024, with the capacity delivered by quarter two of 2026.
