Castrol has announced that it is collaborating with immersion cooled server specialist Hypertec as part of its move to develop and accelerate the adoption of immersion cooling in data centres.

The partnership will develop and test the latest immersion cooling technology at Castrol’s data centre testing facility in Pangbourne UK, set to launch later this year.

Hypertec is the first server OEM to collaborate with Castrol, and this partnership will build on the oil company’s existing collaboration with Submer. Submer has provided its SmartPod and MicroPod tank systems to the Pangbourne facility which have been modified to test new fluids and new server technologies.

In 2022, Castrol announced it will invest up to £50 million investment in its headquarters at Pangbourne.
