DataQube Global to lead new edge data centre development project

DataQube is set to power a new edge data centre development project in Basingstoke

Glendine Developments has appointed DataQube Global as team lead of a project to redevelop two vacant properties in Viables Business Park, Basingstoke into an edge data centre campus.

CEO David Keegan will lead the DataQube team, which will oversee project progress and ensure all milestones in development are met.

The company will work alongside a consortium of construction firms, building architects, structural engineers and facilities management companies.

DataQube’s edge data centre system will provide all data centre services and 5G connectivity requirements for the project, and the first 200KW DataQube module – comprising 20 racks – will go live in Q3 2022, to be scaled up as the project evolves.

The new campus will offer a co-working space, R&D labs, as well as recreational facilities to support wellbeing in the workplace, including a high-spec gymnasium and swimming pool.

The project is part of a wider regeneration project in the area, aimed at providing long-term employment to the local community, and is valued at £20 million.

To support Glendine’s corporate responsibility and sustainability goals, DataQube’s person-free layout is designed to reduce power consumption by up to 40% and Co2 emissions by up to 60%, because the energy transfer is dedicated solely to the server racks. Immersive cooling technology in the system’s core internal infrastructure reduces these figures further.

“DataQube is extremely proud to be chosen as the team lead for this first of its kind project,” said Keegan.

“Glendine are working to deadlines that would be unachievable for regular data centre deployments due to planning/building permission requirements. DataQube’s scalable design and person-free layout makes deployment possible within a six-month timeframe.”
