Cologix acquires Montreal’s leading hyperscale data centre provider

Cologixa network and cloud-neutral interconnection and data centre company, has announced the acquisition of COLO-D, Montreal’s leading provider of hyperscale data centres.

This acquisition integrates COLO-D’s best-in-breed hyperscale edge campus in Montreal with Cologix’s leading interconnection ecosystem and data centre platform.

COLO-D adds 50MW of hyperscale data centre capacity to Cologix’s existing Montreal footprint which spans seven data centres throughout the region. With this integration, Cologix is now the only data centre provider to offer hyperscale ready-for-service capacity combined with unparalleled interconnection solutions.

“The COLO-D acquisition is representative of our investment and commitment to offering tethered hyperscale data centres in order to meet and exceed the needs of the rapidly growing hyperscale edge and cloud connectivity markets. COLO-D and Cologix combine the necessary physical infrastructure with the cloud and network onramps to a robust connectivity ecosystem that hyperscalers require,” said Bill Fathers, chairman and CEO, Cologix.

The acquisition solidifies Cologix’s position in Montreal and reinforces its commitment and investment to bring highly connected capacity to the Montreal market in order to serve as the connective tissue supporting the rapid data centre growth throughout the province.

Cologix will deploy over $500M in data infrastructure investment throughout its Montreal footprint by the end of 2019 including a 12K SQF, N+1, 3MW expansion in their downtown MTL7 data centre and an expansion of COLO-D’s D2 data centre.

Collectively the companies now offer choice of 80+ networks and direct on-ramps to the leading hyperscale service providers in the world including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and IBM Cloud.

“Montreal represents a fast growing and increasingly strategic market that has already attracted the biggest cloud platforms in the world, with an abundance of very low cost power derived from renewable energy sources,” stated Patrick David, president and CEO, COLO-D.

“Cologix has continually demonstrated an unmatched commitment to the needs of the region in terms of data centre capacity, resources and infrastructure, and we’re pleased to now be part of their team. The combination with Cologix will further strengthen COLO-D’s market position and allows us to accelerate our growth in this market and beyond.”
